The Story Behind Perla del Mar

Perla del Mar is a historic brand revived by J.C. Newman (with roots tied back to early-1900s cigar heritage). The modern Perla del Mar blends feature aged Nicaraguan binder and long-fillers from four regions—Pueblo Nuevo, La Reina, Condega, and Jalapa—finished with different wrapper styles to create distinct personalities.

Perla del Mar Corojo

A robust Ecuadorian Corojo wrapper over that Nicaraguan core gives Corojo a profile that often leans spicy-sweet and lively, while staying balanced. 

Tasting note inspiration: caramel/vanilla sweetness with a smooth, refined character (varies by palate and vitola). 

Best for: “I want flavor that pops, but I’m not trying to get punched in the face.”

Perla del Mar Maduro

The Maduro version uses a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper (per the brand’s own description), bringing a deeper, richer lane—often described with espresso, chocolate, leather, and wood notes. 

Reviews commonly place it in the medium and creeping-up territory as it develops through the smoke. 

Best for: “I want dark, cozy, and bold—coffee’s invited.”
